These bright regions are caused by the aurora in the upper atmosphere of Jupiter. Like Earth, JupiterΓÇÖs magnetic field traps charged particles streaming away from the Sun and draws them into its polar regions. The particles, interacting with the gases found there, produce brilliant displays of light.
